How to define it.

13 May 2008

I was reading Ivy's post regarding her departure from Toronto, and it reminded me a lot of an earlier blog I made, of how I was a lot distressed at the lack of change and constant stability in my life. It's not like I want my life to fall apart, but rather, I would enjoy something to happen (something good, since I am selfish smiley ) or perhaps go somewhere.

It also got me thinking about Toronto. The capital of Ontario, and with good reason. It's an amazing city, and I've been there multiple times, with hopes of moving there, too. There is so much to love about it, from the simple and unnoticed to the blatantly obvious. Like Ivy said, it's truly a city of culture, and really represents a lot of what Canada is like. It's not a melting pot, but a mosaic, where no one is forced to assimilate (unless your views put both yourself and others at risk), and it's truly a community of individuals contributing to a greater good.

I've gone there many, many times and know my way around to a fair degree. I know how to get places using the public transit system, be it by subway, bus or streetcar. This is mostly because I detest using individual vehicles when Toronto has such an amazing system, and since parking in Toronto is such a bother.

I love going to the festivals, walking through the downtown full of stores, finding the more obscure shops in Chinatown, the small restaurants tucked away, and the markets in the side streets. I love the Royal Ontario Museum, the Toronto Reference Library, and the excitement of Toronto.

It's truly an amazing place to go, and I cannot wait to find myself a life there.

Updates
- New section: colour palettes! 14 colour palettes added.
- 3 new Kristen Bell icons.
- 3 new origami icons.
- Reorganized the content section so that the stock photography and 100x100 icons have their own pages (it was getting messy and gross)
- Reorganized the avatars section and added 7 flora icons.

I got back a few hours ago-- I'd gone to work (I work at a Pharmacy from 6am - 12pm), gotten picked up and did a bit of 'running around' with my mom. I finally got a new haircut! It's a little shorter than my old style, but not the shortest I've ever had it. The shortest I've had it is... ugh, only a few centimetres long. Very short!

But my new hair is much nicer- I like it. I can do whatever to it and it still looks okay, haha. I am pretty 'lethargic' when it comes to doing my hair. I have a lot of hair products from when I used to do it, but for the most part, I never feel like it. It takes so much time! I'm usually rushed in the morning anyways, so I never get to style my hair very much.

In addition, my hair is really thick, so it has a mind of its own. dead To straighten it all when it was dry, it took me an hour and a half once. not fun! Now that it's shorter, it should take a little less longer, haha. But having thick hair can be a bother. If I let it grow out, it starts going in random directions and just looks weird.

And the three month date has passed, which means I can dye my hair again soon! I usually try to wait three months between dying my hair so it doesn't get all dry and brittle. I love dying it bright colours. The last I died it was black, purple and blue. I had to dye a lot of it back to black since I'd dyed all my hair bright red previously and it was really starting to fade.

Now, the blue and purple has faded to blonde and a weird greenish colour. Soon, I'll be able to dye it again! I want to order some Manic Panic hair dye off the internet, preferably the sort that glows in the dark (hair that glows in the dark! Nuts!) I'm thinking I'll dye it blue again, but a bright, bright neon blue. I am excited! grin

What sort of hair do you have? Does it take you ages to get right, or do you care little about it?

Quick update!

09 May 2008

I've got a few things to update on:

Updates
- 2 new Hayden Panettiere icons (I always thought her named was Patnierre, haha!)
- 4 new Kristen Bell icons
- Updated the brush and texture resource lists
- Tweaked the current layout!

I'm planning on adding more content now that I'm happy with my layout. I was really getting tired of the old layout, no matter how wonderful simplicity it.

Aaaand... I've been tagged by the '10 random things' meme, so here goes:

10 things you probably don't know about me
01. I am Dutch and Arabic, but I prefer to refer to myself as Canadian.
02. The longest I have lived in the same house is 6 years.
03. I have 21 FireFox extensions (add ons), 8 Greasemonkey scripts and 2 FireFox themes.
04. I joined deviantART when I was 11 years old... and still have the account (and the lame username |: )
05. I love History and Mathematics. I especially love a good joke from either of them. (Here's a good one: What do you call a function that wants to kill itself? Sinusoidal!)
06. I own two nerdy Math t-shirts and one nerdy Chemistry t-shirt.
07. I love almost all forms of art, and I'm horribly messy when I paint. I generally get paint all over myself, my clothes, and my friends. 19
08. I have read about one third of Thucydide's Peloponnesian War, and I really want to finish it... someday. On this note, I love Classical literature.
09. My favourite classical play is The Oresteia by Aeschylus!
10. I could spend hours clicking through Wikipedia just reading... and I've done it!

First off, I'd like to welcome Tiffany as a new affiliate of mine! I've been looking for some nice sites to affiliate, so if you're interested, drop me a line. :) Tiff's site is new, but absoloutely gorgeous, so you should take a look! ;]

In addition, I would also like to welcome Libbyann as another new affiliate! She has some gorgeous icons, so you should totally take a look as well ;]

Also, I updated with a new layout! I know it's not the hand-drawn one I've been promising for a week or so, but... here's a new one! I had a burst of creativity and wanted to try my hand at a big, unorganized chaotic layout. I think it turned out pretty well, and I'm fairly proud of myself for not using any brushes to add detail, haha. I really don't like using brushes a lot, so this turned out really well.

I decided to spruce up the css a bit and fix a few things that were bothering me. One of those things was the sidebar. I really don't need one, and now look how much more room I have! Isn't it wonderful? 20 Yes, I love organized, streamlined layouts. -sighs happily-

I hope everyone likes this as well! It features Emilie Autumn. She's amazing, and I love her sense of style, both in fashion and music. She's an amazing vocalist and even better with her violin. In fact, she was once the backup violinist for Courtney Love.

I'll leave you with a youtube video of a recording so you can hear for yourself~

And yes, she does have a very unique style!
